Each year, the
New York City Fire Department Emergency Medical Service Command
responds to 50,000 calls to the 911 system for asthma. To
combat this growing urban epidemic, FDNY has developed an
EMT-based treatment program, ushering in an exciting new era
in pre-hospital asthma care. This unique effort now makes
it possible to provide early, life-saving medication to all
asthmatics within our city, decreasing both morbidity and
mortality from this deadly disease. |
