All HHC facilities have programs that center specifically on women's health needs. HHC puts a premium on taking steps to help women prevent illness or diagnose it as early as possible, when treatment can be most successful. Last year, HHC facilities performed more than 70,000 mammograms and 180,000 cervical cancer screenings. Because breast and cervical cancer treatment is most successful if the disease identified in its early stages, encouraging women to seek screening becomes even more important.

HHC delivers more than 21,000 New York City babies each year and now, many of them begin their lives in one of HHC's modern and welcoming birthing centers. New Labor and Delivery Suites can be found at Coney Island, Harlem, Jacobi, Kings County, Lincoln, Queens and Woodhull hospitals. HHC facilities provide prenatal, labor and delivery services for pregnant women and newborns at every level of risk, from uncomplicated births to the most complex cases. North Central Bronx Hospital and Gouverneur Healthcare midwifery services are recognized across the country for their family-friendly approach.

HHC has invested in the latest technology to aid in keeping women healthy. Lincoln hospital was the first HHC facility, and one of a small number of hospitals in New York City, to own a $407,000 digital mammography system that improves physicians' ability to diagnose breast cancer, shortens exam time and maximizes comfort for the patient. Coney Island Hospital's Breast Health Center has dramatically improved the care given to women with breast diseases through the use of the latest stereotactic mammography and sonography equipment.
